Hannah is 27 years old this May and was born and raised in Fiji. She grew up on a smaller outer island called Rotuma, where her mother is from and they have their own native language. In contrast to her mother’s roots, her father is from Rhode Island, USA and influenced her American accent. They couldn't be from more opposite parts of the world or cultures but she says she loves it!
Once she finished high school in Fiji, she moved to Southern California to attended college at Concordia University Irvine, where she majored in Political Science, was a scholarship athlete, and the captain for Concordia water polo team. After 6 years of living in the US, she decided to move back home to Fiji beacuse she wanted to give back to her community with all of her experiences and lessons learned from the big city.
Now she works for the Fiji Surfing Association and helps manage her family’s small business called Island Naturals. Their family business has been around for over 20 years. They produce and source essential oils from Fiji’s outer islands in rural places where they are able to give jobs to the village people by paying them to collect nuts, build solar dryers, and work in production.
She has been a competitive surfer since a young age representing Fiji in international competition including a couple years on the world qualifying series (WQS). Her next immediate goal for surfing is to qualify for the Olympics. She will be competing at this years World Surfing Games in Japan in September with the hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Games.
